Intro to Unreal

A 6-week course in which students are introduced to the Unreal Engine; from zero experience to power user, students will gain a solid understanding of the fundamental basics of the Unreal Editor.

Week 2 | Asset Import

Preparing Assets for Import | Preparing Textures for Import | PBR Texture Pipeline | In-engine LODs | Importing Assets | Prepair materials for assets | Unique materails vs tileables vs trim sheets | Construct materials in Material Editor

Week 3 | Setting up Props - Part A

Conceptualizing the scene | Gather References | Identify unique props vs trims | Setup Master list of Props (trello) | Create simple blockout of scene

Week 4 | Importing Props - Part B

Prop and scene creation | Import and verify all props for scene | Setup LOD’s and Materials | Setup project and verify all assets are game-ready

Week 5 | Setting up a Scene - Part A

Setup standard lighting | Setup proper lightmap resolution | Setup lightmaps for all assets and scene

Week 6 | Setting up a Scene - Part B

Setup HDRI and Post Processing | Polish scene lighting and create different moods via lighting | Create High-Res Renders from UE4 | Finalize and polish scene | Create and setup scene turntable

Clinton is the founder, studio head and creative director of Dekogon Studios, an artist collaborative art OS studio. Formerly a senior look development artist at Microsoft Studios: The Coalition located in Vancouver, BC, working on the Gears of War franchise. He has also previously work an artist at Bethesda Game Studios Austin, KIXEYE, Army Game Studio, and various other contract projects with independent studios. Clinton’s primary focuses are art direction, environment art, shaders, and visual development. His experiences range from AAA, Indie, and mobile development. In 2016 he released a textbook with Sam's Publishing with a focus on game art development for Unreal engine.
