The more you know, the better.

Week 1 | Basic UI and getting used to the programs

In this week, we will learn the UI of all the programs in the Substance Suite, work on useful first  steps such as starting new files, importing meshes and external media and understanding some of  the biggest troubleshooting steps for issues you might encounter. What to do if you get stuck or  something breaks. What equipment are you likely to need for Substance?

Week 2 | Understanding the purpose of each program and how it works within the Substance ecosystem

Designer – Creating custom materials. 

Learn about some of the most used nodes (atomic nodes) and what their purpose is. Learn more  about how to navigate the library and how to start building materials. Shortcuts and common  workflows in Designer.  

Painter – Texturing 3d assets 

How does the layer stack work? building materials and smart materials. Using different tools and  workflows and navigating the library view.  

Alchemist – Material enthusiasts toolbox  

How does the different tab layout work? How can you make materials and how does it differ to  Designer? How does Alchemist feed into the Substance workflow?

Other Substance Programs 

We will briefly touch on other parts of substance such as Substance Share/Launcher/Player to  explain how they can factor into your workflow. 

Week 3 | Project

In this week we will work on a brief project in each of the main programs. With this we will focus on  the programs individual strengths to create our first piece of content. For Designer we will start with  a simple base material and export it for use inside of Painter. In painter we will texture an asset from  

the included Painter sample projects and in Alchemist we will create unique materials from photos  and scan data
